As we announced at Friday’s in-service training, there are FREE Twins tickets available for the Summer Reads VISTAS. The tickets are for the Twins VS. Milwaukee Brewers game next Friday, June 27, at 7:10 P.M.
There are enough tickets for everyone to get two, possibly three. Please email Angelina (akostreba (at) themlc.org), Bridget (bbursaw (at) themlc.org), or Natasha (nlaumei (at) themlc.org) by next Friday to let us know how many tickets you’d like. We’ll hand them out at the in-service next Friday.
Check out the Summer Reads Forms on the MLC website (http://www.themlc.org/forms) (added link in the sidebar, under Summer Reads Nework) to find your online mileage reimbursement form, various policies forms, and other forms you’ll need later in the summer.
Some new links have been added to the sidebar, under Literacy and Tutoring Resources. The Johns Hopkins Center for Summer Learning offers insight and advice about summer learning opportunites and resources. LDA Minnesota is an organization focused on education for adults and children with learning disabilites. Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is the largest national children’s literacy organization, offering free books and literacy resources to children, their families, and educators who need them most. Reading Rockets is another national child and family literacy organization offering multimedia literacy resources. And finally, The Literacy Site is a fundraising site that gives free books to children through donations raised by online pay-per-click sponsors (so go click!).
If any of you have suggestions for more online literacy and/or tutoring resources, please send an email to Natasha at nlaumei (at) themlc.org, and we’ll add a link to the blog!
Hello, Vistas! Most of you are well into your first week at your sites by now, and we hope everything is going well and you’re enjoying your tutoring time. As you may have noticed, there are links to each of your weekly feedback logs on the sidebar to the right. We would like you to complete these each week by Sunday evening (5:00 or so). If for some reason you are unable to do this, or have difficulty completing the online form, please talk to Angelina as soon as possible.
Next week we will begin visiting your afternoon sites to check in with you — take photos, listen to your tutoring stories, and see how your experience is going. If you have any quetions or concerns before then, please call, email, or come the MLC to talk to Angelina, Bridget,or Natasha. See you next week!
Welcome, Summer Reads Vistas! We’re so excited to begin this year’s program with all of you! We hope that the next 8 weeks will be a positive and enlightening experience for each you (and us), and to help make that happen we will try to provide you with all the resources and support we can. This blog will be a way for you to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in the program and with your fellow Vistas. We’ll be posting announcements, events (check out the calendar), links to tutoring resources and the Summer Reads program and sites (see the sidebar to the right), photos and stories from each of your sites, and anything else we can think of to help you have a great experience as a Summer Reads Vista!
